Courtney & Matt

After a few weeks from one of the biggest changes in my life, I have come to terms that photography has to become a number one priority in my life. I have to take more time for shooting, more time for promoting, more time making myself vulnerable and meeting people to get my name out there.
I had the opportunity to make my way back to Oklahoma City after one of the hardest weeks of my life and was able to shoot a very sweet engagement session. Courtney and Matt warned me plenty of times before shooting that they were “really awkward” and I will have to help them out a lot. That was not the case. Yes, they were awkward, but aren’t we all when a camera is in front of our face? It isn’t a natural occurrence. Their love was so sweet and funny. They messed with each other and made each other laugh the entire time. When there were people watching as we were shooting, they looked so natural waving and giggling to them. Their willingness to go where I wanted to shoot was so fun, a graffiti painted rock wall, top of my favorite parking lot in OKC, and the gardens? Yes please.
I have looked up to Courtney ever since I met her as president of my sorority when I went through spring recruitment. I came to enjoy her awkwardness and obsession over socks, bacon, and nike shorts. I was thrilled when I got a text from her asking me to take their engagement photos, UM REALLY?! Is what I wanted to say, but I played it off cool with a business response back.
I naturally thought that I would have a hard time shooting this engagement session with everything going on but if anything, it was the most relaxing natural thing that made me feel 100% better. There’s nothing more reassuring than going through a hard time but knowing that if I pull out my camera and go explore, my heart will be overjoyed and I will feel ok again.
These photos make my heart happy, and I hope they make you smile, too.
